Please get in touch with our shelter and visit us if you are interested in a wonderful pet. We have many more dogs than you see here, puppies and adults. You can visit us regularly, until you find the right pet for you, and you are welcome to continue visiting us after we have given you your new friend, just to say hello to our staff and to see our new arrivals. We can also help you with the training and ordinary care of your new pet. If you have a specific type of dog that you would like to have, you can contact us and we will notify you when such an animal arrives. We also can put you in touch with specific-breed rescue organizations. Our overall goal is to put pets in touch with potential pet owners.
As you look over the list of dogs who need homes (and it grows daily), you may note the number of mixed-breed puppies. At the Humane Society we love mixed breeds, and purebreds, but we see more than we can help. If you are a pet owner, or a potential pet owner, you know what causes these unwanted mixed-breeds: doin’ what comes naturally. But naturally, to a dog, means having puppies and then turning them out to whatever fate awaits. Please spay (female) or neuter (male) your pet if you do not intend to breed her or him for puppies. Even in rural Greene County, the cars are faster than the dogs, and the livestock don’t like wild dogs either.
In some cases we post animals for rescue groups that accept certain breeds and then try to find homes for them. When you see us mention a group or a name, this does not mean that you cannot inquire about the animal. We are looking for final adopters, and the rescue group is only a place to foster an animal until a permanent home can be found. Call if one of these pets interests you.
